Dato’ Dr Adnan Hussein
Adnan Hussein was Professor of Communication, at the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Since joining Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1994, he has been appointed as Dean of School of Communication, Chairperson of Journalism Section, Deputy Dean (Academic and Student Development), and Deputy Dean (Research and Postgraduate Studies) of the School of Communication, USM. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Utah, M.Sc. degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Iowa State University and B.A (Hons) in Anthropology and Sociology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He had successfully supervised and graduated 10 Ph.D. students and over 30 master’s students. His research interest was on environmental communication and the new media. He had been invited to deliver keynote addresses at various international conferences and gave public lectures in a number Indonesian universities. He had taught Advanced Communication Theory, Qualitative Communication Research Methods, Communication Theory and Research, Seminar on Environmental Journalism, Photojournalism and Desktop Publishing. From 2011-2019 he was appointed as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Student Development Affairs and Alumni, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He introduced the HEBAT (Holistic Entrepreneurship Balanced Articulate Thinking) programme to enhanced USM graduates. In 2019 - 2022 under the Flexible Scheme for Retired Scholars (FSRS) he was appointed as Head of Leadership Cluster in-charge of training programmes to train and groom USM future leaders. He has successfuly design and execute the Apex PEARL (Professional Enhancement of Academic and Research Leadership) Development program.
Although he has fully retired as a full-time academics, he has been invited to give lectures and talks at various local universities.
Currently he serves as Secretary, Anggota Lembaga Koperasi, Koperasi Impian Warisan Berhad and has been appointed as a member of the Advisory Board, Akademi Kepimpinan Tun Perak (AKTP).
