Associate Professor Dr. Ong Huei Ruey is a senior academic, researcher, and academic administrator at the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) in 2016, graduating with distinction and receiving both the Best Thesis Award and the Graduate on Time (GOT) Award. He is a Professional Technologist (P.Tech.) in Chemical Technology, certified by the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), and a HRD Corp Accredited Trainer. Dr. Ong possesses extensive academic leadership and governance experience, having served as Senior Dean of the Institute of Academic, Dean of the Research Management & Postgraduate Centre, and Head of NEXUS at DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia. In these capacities, he led institutional academic quality assurance, research governance, postgraduate development, strategic partnerships, innovation ecosystems, and university–industry collaborations, contributing significantly to institutional transformation and performance enhancement.

His research interests encompass a broad spectrum of engineering and applied sciences, including Catalysis, Reaction Engineering, Energy and Environment, Plastic and Polymer Composites, Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials, Nanofluids, Fuel Cells, Battery Technology, Waste-to-Wealth (Green Technology), Fluid Dynamics, and Industry 4.0 applications. His work is strongly aligned with sustainable engineering, advanced materials, clean energy solutions, and industrial innovation. Since 2019, Dr. Ong has secured 15 competitive research and innovation grants from government agencies, universities, and industry partners, with a total funding value of approximately RM 1 million. He has also actively participated in nearly 80 international and national research exhibitions, achieving numerous special awards, platinum medals, and gold medals, reflecting the high impact and translational potential of his research outputs. Dr. Ong’s scholarly contributions include approximately 100 publications in high-impact journals and book chapters, 15 registered patents, an H-index of 24, and 2,191 citations, demonstrating strong international research visibility and academic influence. In recognition of his outstanding service, leadership, and research excellence, he was awarded the DRB- HICOM University Vice-Chancellor’s Platinum Award (2022). With a strong commitment to academic excellence, applied research, postgraduate development, and industry-driven education, Dr. Ong continues to play a pivotal role in advancing innovation ecosystems, strategic partnerships, and talent development at both national and international levels.
